Hi folks,

I've done a little testing on the iPad Pro 2021 versus the 2020 model and frankly, you won't see 25-50% gains on export speed under the current software. I don't know if it's the systemwide 5GB memory limit or just that benchmarks cannot be relied upon but on a recent 4K export (7 minute clip), the M1 beat the A12Z by maybe 3-4 seconds. (I can post footage if that's helpful).

At this point, I would say there's little reason to upgrade for speed.

Now...the rest - Centre Stage, the screen and Thunderbolt....yeah. But right now with speed, there's virtually no difference.

I'm going to test the M1 Mac mini with Lumafusion and the same project and see what I get.

I believe the M1 isn’t noticeably helping rendering videos and the chip may not even be used in the exporting process. There’s another conversation in this forum that shows only a minor improvement. But things generally within the app including loading and previews are much faster. I need to replace my iPad before long but the difficult question will be how much do I really need. I’m trying to hang out until the dust settles on the new ipads, iOS, and LumaFusion.

I’ll be looking out for some HDR workflows for Luma.

Luckily there’s more than just the M1 chip to this device.

I just gave my daughter my 2016 iPad Pro and got one of the 16GB M1 models. The 2016 iPad Pro was actually pretty capable, and in general, I'm seeing only modest improvements in performance even from that.

This is not to say that I'm in any way disappointed. I'm going to keep this iPad for at least five years, and if it is competitive then as my 2016 iPad Pro is now, I will have gotten my money's worth out of this investment!

Thanks for that. I’m starting to think that for video I might not get full value from an M1 for some time compared to a cheaper iPad. But maybe LumaFusion will be one of the apps that will be allowed to access additional memory before long.

AUV3 plugin support might make the M1 iPad pull way ahead. I do a lot of music related video, so this will be a big deal to me.
