Hi Rob -
Thanks for the tutorial - I haven't tried this so it may be just a matter of doing my own test but I'll ask anyway - will the approach you demonstrated retain properties of the clip on the timeline as well as its in/out points to the relinked media?

Interesting idea.

Will this retain properties ?
If it is a png yes, with other areas aspects such as videos with layers and effects.
I would predict no.

So please do a test and post back please, I would be interested to know your results please.

If it helps I often save my presets out to cloud or local drive.
I keep them on the IOS of course.
