I love editing with Lumafusion (I use vegas on PC) but sometimes the file management in the iOS ecosystem drives me crazy. My workflow combines short bits of video shot on my iPhone AirDropped to the iPad combined with stock footage stored on the iPad.

In my perfect world, I would love to have a media bin that I can import from PC that stays local on the iPad. Internet here is problematic so I don't want to be downloading media every time I need it. I would like this video file to be available to Lumafusion AND if I need to play it in a media player, also available to Apple TV or VLC.

Half of this is easily done by using iTunes to import media to the Lumafusion folder, but then this is not available in VLC (other than through the share sheet which is clunky). I could create a photos folder and move the reusable media there, but it will sync to iCloud and not remain local.

As I think about it, Audio is handled well for me. Music sits happily in the music folder, available to the Music app but also available to Lumafusion to use. I would welcome any suggestions or if I'm overlooking (or overthinking) this.

Using an iPad Pro w/ USB-C I find using external SSD drives to be the best way to move media between iPad and PC. Have you tried this?

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately I am on an iPad Air 3. This means a lightning connector. Flash drives and lightning connectors usually require an extra power supply, meaning more dongles and hookups. My work environment has changed, I’m actually considering upgrading to a newer iPad with a built-in cellular connection. This could be the iPad Air 4 which would then have USB-C. But for now, it seems as if the lack of a true file structure, keeps the iPad from being a better productivity device.

A cheap(ish) NAS box maybe?

You should get a ravpower FileHub then you can connect wirelessly to any drive and it’s fast too the new version has 5g wifi, and at around $50 it cost the same as a apple as card reader.... add to that it’s also a battery backup too as well as other features
