Hello everyone.

I'm new to the forum and am hoping to have a great experience using LF. But right now it just ain't happening.

I went out and bought the new 2018 iPad Pro 11" 512GB model hoping to use it for video editing on the go, and discovered, to my dismay, that I can no longer import my GH5 files. What the #$%$ (Do I have to keep it PG here?). I did some searching on the internet and it seems that Apple has completely blocked the ability to import incompatible codecs (why the BLEEP is ProRes incompatible?). Does anyone have some insight into this problem? I spent quite a bit of time searching on the internet and basically got no answers as to whether there is a workaround not involving purchasing a GnarBox or something similar.

Before, on my old iPad, when importing from a card reader, I would get a warning on import, but the files WOULD import and then play and edit fine in LF. Now, importing from a card reader or direct from my GH5 doesn't work at all. Sometimes the files don't appear. Sometimes the files appear and start to import, but after reaching the 1/4 mark importing seems to freeze. Other times the files appear, but when trying to import, they quickly give a warning sign and do nothing.

As far as I can see, the only way to get around this is to get a Gnarbox, WD MY Passport Wireless, or some other wireless unit (I see a whole bunch of them on Amazon but don't know how good they are, and I'm not even sure if they still work OK after the update). I got the 512GB model to avoid having to do that, carrying around another piece of hardware.

So, does anyone have any insight, word, or workaround for this issue? Also, I love my BMPCC and would love to get that into action with LF. I, and I'm sure a lot of you here on this forum, have been waiting to. Anybody found a good workaround?

Picking up one of your comments re how good are .. WD MyPassport Wireless Pro HDD. I have one of these and with the current firmware the device works really well with my iPad Pro. You can even access the drive via the iOS Files app! I imagine the new SSD drive version is even better. Lumafusion can access the wireless pro files too. SD cards and USB sticks can be copied directly by plugging into the drive. It’s good to have a backup too in case you lose the iPad (and all your files).
Good luck with your GH5 issue. Are you using the same card reader? Is it an Apple card reader, if so maybe one of the cheap knockoffs might give a better result.

I highly recommend getting a ravpower FileHub... they cost about 50$ us approx and works perfectly wirelessly as well as giving you the aditional benefit to expand your iPad storage and also does things like being a power bank too. You can also use it to use as a portable router as well.
In my opinion it does most that a gnarbox does for 1/10th of the price.

I use one and use my 1TB drive with it and never have storage problems. It’s got the added benefit of a one button push backup of my sd cards whilst I’m on the road too... no power needed it uses its own battery bank so I can take somebody footage... then on my drive home put my Sd card in and plug in my 1TB drive and hit the button and it will backup whilst I’m driving home.
