Easing keyframes can be done manually, but it’s tedious. I do this by placing whatever I want to ease in its final end point, then, using the size & pos screen, manually move the object using the sliders for maximum control. Going backward one frame, I then hold my finger on the line to the left or right of the dot on the position slider and move it .05 units, then move one frame backward, adjust the position .10 units, then move one frame backward, adjust the position .20 units, then move one frame backward, adjust the position .40 units, repeating the proces until the object is off the screen. The end result is the object slides into position, easing into place. For added sweetness, I add a motion blur which I also keyframe, though it doesn’t have to be handled with such frame-by-frame delicacy.
If you want to ease something in that’s moving at a diagonal, or incorporates both scale and position, it gets exponentially more tedious to accomplish.
Easing items in and out of a composition looks tremendously professional, though, so it’s worth the effort. But I hope that the ever-awesome LumaFolks can put ease-in/ease-out as high as possible on the priority list of upcoming features!
