Does HD works only on ipad pro?

Mine is an ipad 2018 16GB
HD: WD my passport Ultra (attached picture) and Toshiba canvio.

You can see that the light on the HD passport which appears it has additional power plus the dongle was also powered but the HD still did not appear on files.

I guess it does not work for now and still be waiting if further updates allows it in the future.

Regards,
Slash

Did you try connecting the hard drive directly to the USB LT dongle instead of USB power hub?

Ok, just a quick update. I was able to get my WD Passport HDD finally working with my iPhone. Here is the combo that works:

iPhone 11 (lightning connection) > Apple USB 3.0 Camera Connection kit (not powered) > Kingston Nucleum USB hub (powered).

Anything I plug into the Kingston hub will connect to my iPhone (HDD, SSD, SD, all at the same time too).

Not sure it matters, but my Kingston hub is usb-c, so I had to get a USB-c female to USB adapter to plug it into my camera connection dongle.

So yes, anything should be able to connect to iPad/iPhone lightning with the right combo.

Hello doberso,

I have a not so pro, iPad Pro 12.9 gen one, supports usb 3 speed, importing only.

doberso, Is the hub you are using powered ?

re-cap no HHD will work 100 % all the time with laptops, iPads etc.
Laptop throws up requires too much power. ( not tried on PC, but suspect it will just work)
iPad pro, works for some days and others not when using say WD my passport.

SSD appear fine, except when using a usb pen drive 2019 from scan disk, where as a free usb stick from 2008 will work !

Apple shop in denial when I approached them for more information on HHD drives.

One area I am unable to gather much data is, writing to an SD card, write speed 70 megs.
Max I have ever managed from memory was around the 7.5 megs a second. ( using iPad Pro)
Example from memory was importing file/ files took 29 seconds and writing back took 4 mins something.

OS appear to have a restriction on writing out to SD card.

Last thought, if you have a DJI pocket camera, issues.
If you using a cable transfer limited to 12.75 megs per second.
Thats pocket camera to iPad Pro, reason being dji says it over heat's using their usb c port.

19 gigs using cable generally exhausts battery here.

Option to use SD card import results in many issues when using app procreate.
dji transfer using SD card results in grey squares in photo app.

Regards Rob

ps iPad Pro not so pro - laptop SD card plug it in.
Transfer at 100 megs and 19 gigs is completed quickly and smoother.
Hell you can even see the image icons pop up showing a preview of the transfers.

Cloud a total loss here in Brighton as the SALR has not been reached (SALR = saturated atbatic lapse rate)
