Filmic is a clever app but it can be slow to start recording so for your needs while flying I wouldn’t recommend it.

As for the wind noise on an iPhone are you aware that by using the earbuds that came with it and encasing the mic in some fake fur you can eliminate most of the noise. It’s not going to be brilliant quality but it’s a lot better than raw wind. See this demo of what I did to mine.

I bought a fake fur sample from Amazon. They give you a sample that would make several wind mufflers for a couple of pounds.

Hi Shrimpy,

You probably live in Brighton I think :) - I'd say hi if I see you walking on the prom.

Many thanks for making the video to show the differences of reducing the wind noise.
These videos do help a lot, the reduction in wind is greatly reduced in windy Brighton by the sea and the fake fur does a better job than I would have thought. Thank you for sharing.

(When using a mobile phone, I use a bouyer mic with 15 feet lead, but not at work)

When I am at work in the air the phone not much use to me as it is activated by screen touch, hence I use a Go pro session, one button press once on, press once off.
Without letting go on the paraglider controls.

I have spoken to filmic dudes and they say my phone will not be compatible as it is a iPhone 5 and filmic pro requires IOS 11 and above.

I did not know filmic requires a delayed action before recording, this is my pet hate of phones, I need to keep my eye on the customer at all times.

So I not able to look down at a screen un lock and slide then press record.
So the Go pro in my hand one button suits me best for now.

I was hoping to use the filmic app to replace After effects in the IOS environment.
Or that was my idea and bring in other video, however filmic say with the Go pro not advantage here.

Regards Rob

Just to clarify Filmic only requires one tap to start filming but in my experience it takes too long to actually start recording once tapped so I often miss the action I wanted to record. If you can tolerate this however then the extra features it brings are useful. 👍

This is a super cool hack. Thanks for the demo. (Brighton looks just like the New York/ New Jersey shore here in the good o'l USA.)

And I agree with you about Filmic. I do wish the record button was more responsive. I find I have to fiddle around to get it to go from white to red to record. With that said, the Presets feature saves the day. I have different presets saved for every scenario - even timelapses.

And the log/raw option should excite every filmmaker.

My favorite feature is the built-in audio level meter. Why in the world do smartphones and (most) DSLRs skip over this feature? There is nothing worse than videoing a scene - only to find out after scrubbing that the mic was not attached (or broken)?

Here’s an idea why not have a little competition between us and set a goal of one minute video of the sea front.

Anyone interested?

Ps anyone in these next of the woods, Brighton I can show you some real ale houses, with micro brewers.

Porters and stouts are my favourites after a day on the South Downs.
