knobbydave - One of the sound loops that Apple added in their recent GarageBand Toy pack are some old NASA vocalizations. One sound drop, in particular, has NASA saying “Welcome Home, Columbia! Beautiful! Beautiful!” What immediately struck me was the apparent insensitivity of this particular transmission. Surely, Apple could have found a less, I don’t know, provocative or controversial vocalization. But my guess is Apple didn’t even listen to these in any detail and, if they did, like most young people nowadays, they didn’t even make the connection. I took some heat over on the GarageBand Facebook group when I raised my concern. Anyway, I resolved the issue in my mind by truncating this particular vocalization after the word, “Columbia.”

Tom
