Hey all

Just upgraded to an iPad Air 4 and so am now living in a post-headphone jack world for the first time

I briefly tried using Bluetooth headphones, which are fine for most apps, but quickly saw the difference in latency. Granted, these are extremely cheap budget earphones but I would imagine even high-end Bluetooth headphones will struggle to have latency good enough for video editing.

When I purchased the iPad I also picked up one of those USB C hubs that allow you to plug in USB devices, HDMI and 3.5mm audio and while this works great there has been a noticeable battery drain as a result. I am assuming this jack-of-all-trades hub is drawing far more power than necessary for just audio so I might pick up a dedicated 3.5mm-to-USB-C dongle from Apple.

Anyway, I want to hear how other people with these jack-less iPads have been dealing with this, so what kind of audio set up do you use when editing?

Update for anyone else who has this issue in future:

Apple’s own USB-C to 3.5mm adapter hardly uses any power at all and editing whilst using it seemingly used no more battery than on an iPad with a built-in audio jack.
