Post subject:  Syncing Audio Troubles

Hi There:
I have sent a message to Luma Touch tech support, and they got back to me. But this being the weekend, I'm hoping to get assistance.

I am having trouble getting an edited version of an audio file extracted from my recorded video to line up with the original video's audio, which I extracted in LM. The audio I"m trying to match up has been edited, and I want to replace the original.

I have overwrite mode enabled on the video, and, as mentioned, detached the original audio, which is unlinked. I have the edited audio that I imported beneath it, also unlinked.

I am zoomed in as close as LM will allow on my iPad Pro 12.9". Whenever I try to move the edited audio to line up precisely with the original audio above, the edited audio enter has its peak just before or after the peak I'm trying to line it up with; never right on target. I don't see any sort of slip mode where I can move the audio by frame relative to the above audio to line up with precision.

I could use some guidance to get to this stage. I know that it won't be the only time I'll need to do this, so I'd like to get this right.

Thanks much.

Just a question: if you are zoomed right in so that the cursor looks like a band (represents one frame) and the waveform peaks don’t match by say half this amount does it matter? Would you be able to actually hear such a tiny discrepancy, maybe a 30th of a second or less?

It isn’t possible to adjust a clip by a fraction of a frame. I can imagine that the position of a cut could inadvertently be coded slightly differently in different procedures. Sometimes it might “round up” and other times down. This is then disturbing in appearance at high zooms in the timeline but a bug that is hopefully undetectable for the ear.

I hope I’ve helped but forgive me if I’ve misunderstood the problem though.

Well, I'm not sure. Good to know that the band at max zoom is a frame. A couple of weeks ago, I made such an attempt of linking up audio and video. I then sent it to someone, ,who noticed that my talking and my actions to the music (I was recorded a performance) was slightly off, and he had to fix it up. While this time it's not music, I just have it in the back of my mind to try and get that part right.

It really would be great to have the ability to nudge in smaller incremetns, but I guess that's not possible. It's as close as I can get it, so I suppose I can look and listen and see/feel that the frame should the shifted one way or the other.

Audio has always perplexed me through my development fro iMovie to Final Cut to Final Cut Pro. Now I do all my editing in Lumafusion, and know that means no real audio editing capability. So I did a lot of searching and came up with a solution that works for me. I use 2 Apps. One is Mauvio and the other is Denoise. Mauvio will edit up to ten minutes of video, so I edit each clip with it. It is an amazing App. It really takes the audio. Once I assemble the liners video and finalize it I run it through the Denoise App. It will process a entire video based upon a selected segment to establish the range of the edit. The combo is amazing. It is making Lumafusion ever more better an App for me.
