Hi everyone

This isn't strictly a Luma thing but I know someone in this community will be able to help me which is why I'm asking.

I'm trying to save a video made with an iPhone 11xr on the beach that has excessive wind noise. In the video I am making a presentation of my business so I'm trying to remove the wind noise without distorting my voice.

I've been using Audacity on my computer and have tried using the noise reduction filter and the high pass filter and both together. I've tried various custom settings. I've also tried some of the filters in Luma.

I haven't found a combination of settings that's reducing the wind noise sufficiently without distorting my voice too much.

Does anyone have any suggestions of settings to try either using Audacity or some other free/cheap audio software available for windows 10 or iPad.

Is the problem that my voice frequency and the wind frequency have too much crossover? I really don't understand enough about sound to figure this out!

Cheers

Hi Topvid

It’s difficult to know without hearing it but I suspect your last sentence is most of the problem

Does this help?

Never had much success removing wind noise myself (using LumaFusion). iPhones always seem to catch wind noise. I guess wind noise covers most frequencies and is hard to filter.
Maybe if it’s only your voice that’s important you could lip synch a voice over?

brushfri looks great...

Does the app denoise a video or just the audio?

I tried Brusfri but can’t say it was effective for wind noise. It did work well for background hums and motor noise. Not surprised really because wind noise is surely multi frequency.
Brusfri has a very dark interface on my iPad. The waveforms and filter tools are very hard to see. It can import a video file but the picture isn’t displayed. I seemed to have to wait or go out and in again for imports to work. Generally a bit confusing. The idea of sampling a section of the track with just the noise to then filter the whole track is good and if you understand this it works easily enough and would be a great addition to LumaFusion. Probably not for wind noise sadly.

Thanks for the tips everyone.

Brusfri looks interesting, although it's not been updated for 2 years which is a concern for the price.

In the end I've abandoned the video and shot a new version in a different location.

I'll investigate methods to reduce the wind noise when making the video the next time I want to make a beach video!

Hello Topvid,

My job past 29 years plus is teaching people to fly in an environment of paragliding.
Abroad say France in Alps you fly in no wind, uk on the other hand we fly in loads of wind.

The only method that works in Uk is a Boyer mic which comes with a long lead.
Mic then clips onto out side of the jacket etc and I plug other end into a phone, iPod use app "voice record"

You probably use two mics and two recording devices.
I have used other audio kit, they are professional audio and would require two people to operate.

Here is an example of how good they are, blue tooth mic is clipped onto myself, audio remote unit is in the stones has a radius of 30 meters. hear how clear this is on a windy day and noise from jacket cloths does not become an issue.

Only other advise is the person paying you for the project ? if so off set costs this way.
Over comes all issues on sound.

If budgeting go boyer mic around £20 tops

I think it only denoise the audio. I have to export and sync it to the video.
The sentiments of mark regarding brusfri is on point and the app can help to an extent.
But happy with the app to denoise the humming of the rode videomic go attached in my iphone.

Hello ngeyobslash,

The mic Boyer plugs into your phone has a 2 meter lead and you place this on the person you are recording.
Wind noise is reduced in the audio, so if you film from a phone no need to mess around job done.

Regards Rob
