Hey Dave any way of getting into the forum host and fixing the search function? It’s a bit ridiculous that words like “key” and “frames” don’t work because they are too common. I’m sure it used to work better once upon a time. Searching is surely the number 1 tool for anybody needing help and many people won’t want to sign up to post a query.

Hi Mark

Unfortunately phpBB which is the software the forum uses is not the greatest in the world

I can confirm the forum is running the latest version, but I know that doesn't help

Even as Administrator the 'thread search' is the same for me

I am happy to try and help if you're searching for anything in particular - maybe two heads are better than one?

No it just hit me again when I was trying to find the old post on masking a moving number plate but I found it eventually. Often I use Google to search the forum but that isn’t the best either.
I saw on the phbBB site something about resetting the common words database. I think an admin has to do this?
Maybe you could persuade the team to get a new forum host. Probably worth them paying for if it saves them some direct emails for help. No doubt they get lots.

I think it’s unlikely they will change the software for the forum

I will see if I am able to reset the common words database

If I can, I will let you know so you can try it to see if it makes a difference
