I just purchased the Sony a6300 to upgrade the quality of my youtube videos shooting in 4k. When I viewed the footage on the ipad pro I had serious pixelization (is that a word) on the ipad. Both on camera roll and in luma. Did a lot of searching but didn't find anybody else having this problem. I have a 2017 12" ipad pro. Finally solved the problem by converting the 4k sony videos to mov files with a video conversion software. That smoothed everything out. I downloaded trial 4 video convertion programs to evaluate which was the fastest. The winner was VideoProc. Twice the speed of the nearest competitor. Bought the 1 year license for about $30. Who knows where we will be one year from now. Thought I would pass this on if anybody else is having this problem.
frank in pei except I am in South Carolina enjoying the sun.

Hi frank

Welcome to the forum

The 'preview' quality is not the same as the output quality (see Global Settings/Advanced Settings/Preview)

Was the output quality ok (note you can change those too before outputting your final file - frame rate/size/bit rate)?

I got the same artifacts while viewing on the camera roll. Is there a setting in the iOS settings I should look at? Also the video was fine when I viewed it on my PC win 10.

Not that I’m aware of in iOS

Have you played with the ‘preview’ settings?

Do they output without the artifacts?

I just watched a good youtube video titled

"How to Transfer XAVC S Files to iPhone or iPad | Possibly No Longer Working in iOS 12 See Comments"

using the Lightning to USB camera adapter and making some changes in your camera settings. I got the adapter and did it and it transfers the 4k video directly from the camera to the ipad and plays with no aberrations. Previously I had been moving the files by inserting the camera sd card in my computer and using itunes file sharing to drop the video into the Lumafusion root directory then moving it to my User Media files.

Not sure why my original method didn't work but in the process of trying to solve the pixelation problem I discovered the conversion software that nicely compresses the huge 4k files to 25% of their original value and still keeps 90% of the detail you get with 4k.

The problem created a solution I would have never discovered.
Your right ... all does come to those that wait.
