I need some clarification around LumaFushion file management.
Are all files "copied" to LumaFusion during import?
Example: Files store locally in Photos, Filmcpro, Folders, Documents, etc VS. cloud (google drive, drop box, etc.)

If all files are copied then it should be safe to delete the file from the source location correct?
I want to organize all my files using CappyLee's method of creating custom folders in my projects and those would be the only copy of the files. I could save storage space by deleting files from the source locations when they are only used as part of a LumaFusion project. My project archives would be my backup.
How is everyone else managing storage restrictions?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Hi Mark,

When you select Photos in the list of Sources you are seeing the media in your Photos app. This media is not imported and no copy of this media is created in LumaFusion. If you delete a photo or video from the Photos app, that media is no longer available in LumaFusion.

When you select “Imported” in the list of Sources, any media that you select is copied into LumaFusion's UserMedia folder that resides on your iDevice.

You could store all of your “Imported” media in the UserMedia Folder using subfolders for each of your projects. Just know that if you have iCloud Backup turned on, this folder gets backed up to iCloud and counts against your overall iCloud storage limit.

Just make sure you are comfortable with this storage scheme before you delete media from your original source locations. I'd use it for awhile before you commit to this change.

I hope this answers your questions.

CappyLee

P.S. I love your YouTube Channel! I'm going to spend some time watching your videos. I can learn a lot.

Hi Mark

Lee is correct

I'd pay particular attention to this sentence ...

' ... make sure you are comfortable with this storage scheme before you delete media from your original source locations. I'd use it for awhile before you commit to this change'

(thanks Lee)

Thank you both for replying. This makes a lot more sense now. I have done several full videos now with lumafusion and was always battling storage creep this explains some of that and the new storage plan will be a good option.

@CappyLee thanks for the kind words for our youtube channel. I am having a lot of fun making those videos and I hope it shows. Kudos to you too for your videos, they have been very helpful. You have a knack for teaching/explaining.
