Hi. Is there any difference from MP4 to mpeg4? I see that a file I have edited and eksported as a H.264 MP4-file does not work in Luma. I can hear the soundtrack, but the screen is black. Why?
I thought Luma could accept several file formats

Hi jhtomassen

It’s not just a case of MP4 or MPEG4 unfortunately. It is the way the file was encoded within that container.

You say you exported the file previously so what program did you use and what was the frame size, FPS, bitrate etc? That will ha e a bearing on whether Apple and therefore LF can handle it

Aha... I see. It was exported from Adobe Premiere on a Mac, 25 fps and 10Mbps.
What is it that Apple does not handle?

Nice overview! But I still can't understand why my exported file made on Premiere is not possible to use on an iPad - because I can`t find out what is the problem with the file I have...

ok

I don’t use or have Premiere (perhaps someone who does can chip in) but there will be settings within Premiere that determine the way the output file is encoded.

Are you using the defaults?

I used a setting which was made for showing the clip on television news, and the iPad would only play audio. But I tried to export with another setting - even if it still is h.264, and then everything turner out fine. For me, impossible to understand....

Hi jhtomassen

Ok, despite being a ‘Grand Master’ :D I can only say ‘I was right that it was to do with the way it was encoded’ ... but I can’t tell you exactly what was wrong with the first try

I will ask the developers if they can answer why - I’m afraid I don’t have that depth of technical knowledge. (The difference though is ‘upper’ and ‘software only’ - maybe something to do with broadcast editing?!?)

So, until we know the answer ... use the setting that works :D

With the 'upper' setting, it's being exported as interlaced (upper field first) rather than progressive, but in general LumaFusion should handle interlaced for import. If you want to send us a link to a sample clip at support@luma-touch.com that doesn't work, we can take a look and see if we can determine why it isn't working.
