Hi guys, is there a diffinitive list of compatible hard drives that work with LumaFusion - as pulling clips from and saving to an external HD would transform my work flow - as I’m always running out of space on my 32GB 9.7 iPadPro

I was holding out for the new 2TB LaCie/ DJI copilot but I’m not sure whether it will even be compatible, so I wondered what other ones worked. Thanks in advance!

Hi DroneSam

I use a WD MyPassport 4tb drive which works fine

There is an SSD version of it now which I suppose should be better power wise?!?

Thank you - I might look into that.

Do you think the LaCie copilot should work too?

I've just gotten a 2tb WD Passport wireless pro with the built in SD card reader.
It can be a little slow to transfer files to and from my ipad but it does the job nicely.
I bought it directly from WD and they gave me a case and 32gb sd card for free with it.
Not sure if it was part of some kind of offer that I didn't notice.

Hi DroneSam

It looks like the LaCie 'should' work

I wouldn't be too swayed by the fact it says 'DJI' though - you want a good all round workhorse that's why I use WD (wifi, sd card reader, iOS app etc) in preference

Just another note about the WD drive.
after copying files from sd card to the drive I found it wasn't fast enough to stream 4k footage recorded at 60mbs
The video files were recorded on a GoPro yet the GoPro app had no problem streaming the footage smoothly to my ipad and phone.
Food for thought if you want to view files on the drive before importing them into luma fusion.

Thanks for the info guys.

Being able to back up in the field with the LaCie / DJI co-pilot without a computer is the main reason why I’d like it. WD would normally be my first choice but I am concerned that it won’t be fast enough 🙁

I shoot in 4K at 25p which has a 100mbps bit rate (from the Zenmuse X5S). When the footage is already on the iPad Pro it previews and plays perfectly in lumafusion. I am looking for a drive which will give me similar performance. So in my mind it needs be solid state and transfer as quick as the lightening port will allow...
