Hi,

I am about to buy a DJI Mavic Air soon and will edit all videos on my iPad Pro 10,5".
When I am traveling I won't bring my computer and I won't have internet connection so I have been looking around the web to find a good way to transfer SD card media to edit things directly on the iPad in a convenient way and there seems to be a couple of options, both cheap and expensive.

One product which interested me most is this one:
https://www.wdc.com/products/portable-s ... s-ssd.html

Does anyone have any experience with it? Is it good, is it fast enough, is it convenient?
The only negative thing is the price, but if the features and performance are good enough, I can still consider buying one.

Another option (I guess) is to buy a cheap dongle to the iPad but I read that there are some limitations?

Hope you can give me some good suggestions :)

Peace!

If you have enough local iPad storage, why not just pick up the Apple Lightning SD adapter? I use this when pulling in content from my Mavic Pro and it works great.

Donka, good idea that would be a cheaper option too

If you're shooting in 4k you'd need a lot of free space on you're iPad if you were going to edit on it too.
With my P3S (which only goes to a slightly weird 2.7k) a full battery's worth of about 18 mins runs to about 4 gig

Yup, the content needs to be local when editing in Lumafusion anyway so while external storage options are handy, you still need to pull in the content locally to your iPad for editing. This means the SD adapter route is probably the most cost effective.

Hello donka

yes, the WD MyPassport would be a solution. I've been using the HDD version and it is good. You can plug your SD card into it and it will automatically copy the files to the drive for backup, then you import those clips into LumaFusion wirelessly.

You can't play the video clips off of the drive to see what they are before importing them (so maybe that's a disadvantage).

You are able to preview the video clips using the MyCloud app (WD's app) but only one clip at a time and each clip takes a while to load depending on how big the file is.

Hope this helps

Hi,

I'm now preparing a backpacking world tour and I had to solve the same problem.

And I finished by choosing something like this (but not exactly this one) :

https://www.amazon.fr/Gamurry-Mini-lect ... 1_1&sr=8-1

I now exclusively use SanDisk's Extreme microSD cards on my GH5 and Spark.

This works with an app. Not the best one by the way.
But it does what I needed : copy video files and pictures to my camera roll.

One advantage over Apple's reader is that this is a 2 way (not to forget to mention the many plugging possibilities.

I've bought many slow 128 Gb mSD cards and I use all of this to backup all my files until the next time I find a network access to the cloud.
Not as fast as ssd or hdd but this is and extremely portable solution and I can have many copies in different parts of my whole packing system.
