It would be really interesting and helpful to know how everybody uses Pinnacle Studio for iPad. There are so many possible video types and each has its own complications. I am sure there is a lot to be learned from others experiences. Some may be commercial, some artistic and some just fun.

Please dont just read, share with us!

To start things off heres my bit:

I make short fun videos of places and sights I like. I have been doing photography for years, mainly landscape and wildlife, but it's getting boring, everybody takes photos these days, and photos don't quite recreate the experience do they? Slide shows? Ho hum!

So I tried video. Wow it's hard! So many things to worry about. But recreating the experience? Yes, even if just by accident, sometimes they're just magic. Well some parts are!

Anyway it's just a hobby, so I have deliberately chosen to limit the gear and the time spent. Partly this is because I need light gear for hiking/running but also I can't justify fancy gear, or late nights editing on a desktop. It's supposed to be a hobby after all.

This is where PS comes in. If I can do it all with my little camera (Panasonic FZ200), bean bag, Camera Connection Kit, and my iPad, away from home sometimes, and often on the same day, then that's great. The result can be shown while the experience is still fresh and PS is easy enough but still satisfies most of my creative tendencies.

You will no doubt get a better idea from my videos:

Happy to answer any questions about workflow etc, and everybody, please tell us how you use video yourself. Maybe start a separate discussion so we can ask questions.
Cheers
Mark

I have not moved completely over to the app side yet, but I am getting there.

If we get the right features and feature updates it will be easier. But to answer your question...

- I do video slide shows. don't find them Ho hum. To me it's all about mating the the right music with the right images and the right timing. But to do it right you need a lot more images then most people are willing to put in to it. So yep I do slide shows.

- I do comedy. Whether it's my son raging at Call of Duty Black ops or the dogs just being themselves. A good prank is always a great capture as well.

- I do narratives and videos to inform. PS works great for voice overs.

I am still really in the experimental side of things. Both to see what PS can do on it's own and with the help of other apps I come across. I use two free apps called title and Icolorama to create stills for intros and the like. I also use an app called scrolling credits in conjunction with notes to create... well scrolling credits or scroll poetry with music backgrounds. when PS adds these feature I may very well drop the other apps. But I don't mind using multiple apps to get the job done. An app that plays well with others is a good app and PS is a good app.

I use PS on my PC, the first version I used captured from VHS via RCA cables if that says anything. if you want to see what I hope to achieve with PS for Ipad some day go to my website and follow the link to my youtube videos. It is on the lower left at the bottom of the menu section. http://www.lokiz.com

Thanks Stefan. Your green screen videos are fun and nicely fitted to the music/lyrics. I guess green screen won't be in PS iPad's next version though! Actually I don't think there are any green screen ipad apps are there? Sorry about the boring slideshow remark. I have made several. I even used Keynote which was nice with very customisable transitions and multiple frames. I even tried videos but unfortunately they always run with an annoying delay in Keynote. I'm trying voice overs but they still sound a bit corny to me and it is tricky keeping things synchronised with video and multiple audio tracks (as in your other post).

Anyone else out there? Please tell us how you use PS.

I use the app most of the time to make invitations for our staff association.

With, sorry to mention, imovie I create a trailer and with pinnacle I can easily cut parts in it and change the music.

Some examples:

Great app and with some templates I can delete imovie ;-)

Thank you very much for your contribution! I always thought iMovies trailers were just a novelty but your videos do show that they can be effective if you can modify them with PS. I wonder if PS would benefit from having some sort of template videos, perhaps as an add-on purchase. A good template which can be customised fully would be a time saver. Alternatively perhaps the ability to export/import project files directly. Then this forum could be used to exchange projects as templates. And how about sound effects and titles and intros and ...

The only problem would be knowing what types of templates users would want but that's where it is interesting to know how people use PS. Anyone else? Please tell us what you do.

Hello Peeps

I use PS for editing my holiday videos/stills

I have the PC version too, but haven't used it in ages as the iPad app is so simple

Hopefully, now we've got some good support, the app will be able to 'grow' again

Also I have pulled together all the clips from my iPhone at the end of each year so I have an 'Iphone 2010 video', 'iPhone 2011 video etc'
and I just include music from whatever I'm listening to at the moment on my iPhone so it's kind of a snapshot of how I'm feeling

Having said that, they seem to be 'Cats, trains, cats, trains, wife, cats, trains' - Ha!

I've been lucky enough to be able to change my video camera for one that saves in a native iPad format - so no more converting for me!

Thanks knobbydave
It's great to be able to do it so easily on the ipad. I am quite reluctant to turn the computer on these days. The end of the year video is a good idea.

Hi Marco
I got thinking about this. You could also perhaps do it all in PS if you took the title backgrounds and perhaps theme music out of iMovie. - make an empty trailer by deleting the text, publish it to camera roll, then reopen in PS, triple click to separate the theme, delete the empty videos and publish again to camera roll. You could then re-use the theme and title backgrounds with PS titles to make movies all in PS. Sound like a lot of work at first but after that you can just re-use it. Hmm, I wonder if Apple would object to this sort of use.

These are great ideas and great contributions. I really like hearing how people are using the App and what things they have to leave the app to accomplish what they need.

Thanks!

I have been using it to try and replace my MacBook Pro. PS is incredibly powerful and it has allowed me to be more mobile and work. Here is a video I just created with PS for a new site we launched. Also I have been using PS to edit about 50% of my clients videos.
