Hi,

I browsed through old posts and FAQ’s, but I can’t find an answer to my problem. I’m hoping someone has a good suggestion. Here’s what happened:

I made my first project on Luma on my Ipad. I ended up having a project with a length of roughly an hour, consisting of shots from my Iphone with some titles and crossfades. Exporting the movie didn’t go so well. I just wanted to have it on the harddrive of my Macbook. First I tried to export to Icloud Drive, but nothing happened. Then I tried exporting to ‘other app / airdrop’. Then I choose email to try to mail the movie to myself. At first it seemed this worked: it showed me an email with an attached movie, ready yo send. However, probably because I temperarily lost my wifi-signal, this failed as well.

When I tried this method of exporting by mailing to myself again, Luma suddenly warned me that I didn’t have enough space anymore to write and export the movie. It turned out that the failed export movie was still sitting in the cache of my Ipad, occopying about 12Gb.

So now I’m stuck. I tried witching the Ipad on and off, but when checking my Ipad Storage it still shows this great big grey bar of ‘other’. I’m sure when I set my Ipad back to factory settings, the space is freed up again, but then I will lose all of my work creating the movie.

Can anyone help me? It is much appreciated!

Hi Floris

Welcome to the forum

It seems like you are running out of or have run out of space (I guess you kinda knew that)

You are correct that if you delete LumaFusion you will 'lose the lot'

Do you have any external storage - you mentioned your Mac

Try

Double check in the iOS Files App that there are no files in RecentlyDeleted on your iPad

Share/Export
LumaFusion Project Package
Other App / AirDrop
Archive Settings Include Full Original Media (larger file)
Give it a name
If that completes you should see your AirDrop Settings
Choose your Mac
It should then save the project file to Downloads
It will be called 'something'.lfpackage

When you've tried that, let us know how you got on

Hi Dave,

Thank you so much for reaching out. The problem is I have no where near enough space on my Ipad to make another export. There are so many Gigs sitting needlessly in my Ipad’s cache that, related to my total available space, I can’t do anything untill I first clear my cache. But I can’t find out how.

Try this

On your iPad go to

Settings
Scroll down to LumaFusion
Tap >
Turn off all access except Photos (guessing it's set to all photos)

Restart your iPad

If that doesn't work then

Go to Settings (again)
Go to iCloud
Tap >
Scroll down to LumaFusion
If selected, uncheck it

Restart your iPad

Seeing that you only have a 32 gig iPad, with a 12 gig project you are always going to be VERY tight on space. The estimate for the exported project size is pretty accurate, but in my experience you need to have roughly 2.5x the space of your project free because of internal iThing overheads etc

Let us know how you get on

I followed all your steps, but no luck.

My storagebar looks exactly the same as before unfortenately.

I realise now my Ipad is not really suitable for large projects, but if I can just manage to squeeze this one out...

Mmmm it's getting tricky!

TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK

Using the Files app
On My iPad
LumaFusion
You should see:

Presets
Project-Backups
Projects
ReversedMedia
UserFonts
UserMedia

Can you AirDrop them one at a time to... I'm guessing your Mac?
(It took some time for my files to airdrop, but it did succeed)

If you can, the individual directories are backed up

Now, and this is at your own risk:

Delete LumaFusion but BE WARNED - EVERYTHING IN LUMAFUSION WILL BE GONE

Then, and I can't really tell you how to do this bit delete everything else that you can from your iPad (it may be easier to restore a backup)

Check your free space (I'm hoping you haven't got the long grey line of 'other' when you check your storage

If you've got what looks to be the space back reinstall Luma Fusion from the App Store

Next using the files app on the iPad delete ALL directories inside the LumaFusion app (even though you haven't used it since the re install)

Next AirDrop all of the directories you have saved from your Mac into the Files app and select LumaFusion as your chosen directory

Nextusing Files on the iPad navigate to LumaFusion -> Project-Backups

Your project should show as a zip file icon with yourprojectfilename.lfpackage

Double tap it and wait

It will open Luma Fusion and 'should' recreate your project

I've just tested this method with a 2 gig project on my iPhone and it worked for me

I cannot guarantee that this will work 100%

Providing, at worst, you back up those directories off your iPad, I have got a 'plan C' in mind but lets hope we don't need that!

Hi Dave,

Thanks to your suggestions I got it working! Thank you so much!

Because my macbook was too old for airdrop I ended up saving the export locally on my I pad, then upload it to Clouddrive, and then download it to my Macbook.

Learned from this experience that I should have payed extra to have more internal Ipadstorage.

Thanks again!

I have another question about export, but maybe I have to start a different topic about that: I used to edit in fcp. When I ended up with a movie of about an hour, I exported in .mov, resulting in about 40 Gigs of data. Now I exported an hour length movie in mp4, an hour resulting in about 13 Gigs. m I missing a lot of quality with this export in comparison with my older exports? It’s all HD recorded. Or is 13 Gigs a reasonable size for an hour movie in fair quality?

Glad you got it sorted

13gig sounds right depending on settings

H265 gives even better compression but not everything can play it
