I like to click a clip and locate the file for further editing.

Have you tried the search function?
I realise that this doesn’t actually show where the clip is located but you can use the file for further editing.

Hi Glenn,

Cool idea you have.
I did try and I will share my experience in a moment with you.
Just like to say thank you for the in put.

As I have files scattered around cloud home, piggy backed drives, Dropbox plus tablet.
Often I lose track with projects contents.

The program I used the longest is Final Cut, here you select file left click, reveal in browser.

In LumaFusion I tried your idea, provided you select search all.
It works, this includes WD home cloud, Dropbox and iCloud I did not try.

I copied file name and made the search - screen grabs below.

Regards Rob

Hi Rob,

Thanks for posting your findings. I have been trying to locate files on my external network connected WD boxes with limited success. I have 2 WD boxes both connected to my network, the older one, a mybook, flatly refuses to connect using the WD source option. But if I add the drive to the imported media source menu option LF can see it fine and I can browse the contents. I don’t seem to be able to search this older drive tho.

I’ve also had LF crash on me a number of times when using the search function, mainly if I select WD instead of All.

For info, I also see from your screenshots that the file you were searching for has a different file name when you viewed the information for the clip. E.g. xxxx-1.xxx. I have noticed that the addition of the -1 to the file name usually refers to a file that has been copied by LF into the LumaFusion>LibraryMedia>PhotoLibrary when you have an active project. It doesn’t seem to have any effect on your search results tho.

I’ll keep experimenting and post anything useful.

Regards, Glenn.

Glenn are you logged in to your external drives as ‘guest’ or ‘administrator’?

Try administrator (they usually get full privileges)

Dave, I’ve tried the suggestions on the LumaFusion site.
I try to login as either my own account or the admin one which I manage, but get the weird login panel as shown below. I think it’s something to do with the SMB version in use on the very old Western Digital MyBook. It can’t be updated unless I hack the box as WD don’t provide firmware updates for it. I have a workaround as mentioned above.

Image follows;

I can’t see the image (I’m on my jollidays at the moment) but that was going to be my next suggestion

Does your MyBook have any SMB settings you can change - even though it’s ols(ish)

Edit: I see the picture now ....

In the top line put your admin name, on the second line put your admin password

Hi Dave, yes tried all that. Nothing works. It’s an odd login panel, never seen one like that before with numbers after the username. Can’t see the SMB version or change it unfortunately, not even sure that is the issue, just my gut feeling.

Regards, Glenn.
