LumaFusion 2.0 is now available in the App Store. This is a massive new update that doubles the number of tracks for video and audio, streamlines the user interface, and much more.

Hey Rob,
Yeah AirDrop has always been crippled this way. Convenient for "social media" style sharing but no good for full-resolution video.
Unfortunately, even "save to Files" export will render a lower quality file first, so it is not just an AirDrop problem.

The only solution I know of requires some hardware. You can buy the Apple "lightning to USB" adapter, and plug the lightning end into your iPad. Then use a standard lightning to USB sync cable to plug the iPhone into the iPad. This brings up your Photos app on the iPad and allows you to select videos or photos to import from the iPhone. The transfer is relatively quick and will bring over full quality video files without resizing or limiting frame rate.

Of course, it looks like iPadOS and iOS 13 will provide some other options, but that is several months away (mid-September?), so this is the only solution I know of for now.

in the meantime you could look into file management apps for the iPhone. There may be options that access the camera roll, then zip the .mov file, then send the .zip file over Airdrop, then open the zip, then import to Photos or LumaFusion... kind of a headache.

I airdrop 4k60 videos between my iPhone and IPad all the time with no loss in quality. It may have to do with the setting “Keep Originals” setting for “Transfer to Mac or PC” in the settings > General > Photos area.

I also save to files this way with no loss in quality.

oh! I had no idea. Well, then it must be an iOS setting that is only applied to AirDropping any slow-motion / high frame-rate videos.

Yeah I just tested it, it bakes in the in/out points when you move it. You can probably just edit the in/out points to the very beginning and very end before you move it. You can always speed up portions in post but you can’t slow down (and keep the original frame rate)

If you have the USB camera connection cable, try connecting your phone to your iPad with that and import the slow motion videos. That worked for me.

Edit : this maybe helpful as well

Apple doesn’t list the iPhone among devices that can be connected to the iPad Pro, so getting a lightning to USB-C cable won’t work.

It’s strange how the iPad Pro 2018 is established as a video editing device and the iPhone’s cameras as its main benefit but connecting the two never comes up.

Yes, looking into how other camera apps manage slow motion files.

I connect my iPhone 8 to my iPad Pro 2018 via USB c / lightning with no issues. Photos and videos are imported to the camera roll.

Yup, and then the videos can be added to project timelines in Luma Fusion.

When you connect your iPhone in this way, the iPad sees the phone as a "Camera"
