LumaFusion 2.0 is now available in the App Store. This is a massive new update that doubles the number of tracks for video and audio, streamlines the user interface, and much more.

Greetings,

I am trying to understand what I might be doing wrong. Importing mavic air footage to my iPad without issue to the footage but once I import into LumaFusion I end up with choppy footage.

On a 24fps timeline, I bring in either 24fps 4K footage or 60fps 2.7K footage and during playback and export, it’s choppy...real choppy with 24fps footage and less with 60fps footage. Footage looks fine outside LumaFusion. Not sure what is wrong

I had choppy video from my drone (and other stuff) for ages and couldn’t figure it out

It’s frame rates .. well different ones .. and multiples thereof

If you’d shot everything at 24fps and produced a 60fps video = choppy

If you’d shot everything at 60fps and produced a 24fps video = choppy

I was shooting train videos at 24fps and outputting at 30fps = choppy

I was shooting 24fps drone videos and outputting at 30fps = choppy

Then after loads of frustration and googling I fixed it by keeping exact multiples of frame rates

Now I shoot at 30fps and output at 30fps = smooth and works for me

Of course the ‘cinematic’ amongst us argue (correctly/reasonably) that 24fps gives the best cinematic effect

Even 24fps footage on a LumaFusion 24fps timeline is choppy though... footage is fine outside LumaFusion

What have you got your ‘preview’ settings set to?

Try ‘fastest’

It’s not the preview unfortunately as it exports jittery.

Mmmmm that’s odd

Ok, if the frame rates are the same, how about the bitrates?

So a lot more experimentation this weekend. This time with my GoPro hero 7. Taking 60fps and placing video on a 24fps timeline on close up shots it feels like LumaFusion every 4th or 5th frame (causing jittery issue) so I slowed it down 8 times and there is a noticeable gap frame by frame where I feel LumaFusion is still skipping frames.

Put it on a 30 FPS timeline and let us know how you get on

60/24 = 2.5 so something’s gotta go missing hence the jerkiness
