First of all, i'm sorry if this question is a repeat, to be honest i'm very new in editing and i can't even categorise my problem.

I am making a video of a video game with commentary. My friend recorded the commentary in Audacity in m4a format 'I presume he used the default settings', i edited the audio again in Audacity and exported the results in MP3 'Default export settings'. After export, the file played as expected.

In LumaFusion, i imported this commentary audio, plus another MP3 file "Downloaded Music" and some video footage in MP4. I organised everything as i wanted in LumaFusion, and before export everything played back in preview as expected. After i exported the project as audio and video 'using default setting' i found out that the commentary audio changed a lot, as if the treble and bass were changed and the quality was a bit lower. Surprisingly, the Music MP3 file didn't change at all.

Please note that during the editing in LumaFusion, the only thing i did to the audio is using the ducking feature, setting commentary as 'master' and music as 'auto'.

Can someone kindly let me know where i screwed up?

Thanks

Hi Dr.Bash

Welcome to the forum

The quality of the audio output is determined under

Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Audio Quality

If you are including audio from various sources then you need to pick the output which is equal or closest to the most important one in your timeline otherwise you will more than likely hear a difference in the output

Thanks for your quick reply, but under settings there are project settings or global settings, and in both i can't find anything related to Audio export quality.

PS: i'm using LumaFusion not LumaFX

Thanks

Audio Quality
LumaFusion can export your audio at 16KHz, 32KHz, 44.1 KHz, or 48KHz. Choose the option required by your destination.

Can you post a link to a clip so we can hear it?

I fixed the problem.

Apparently i increased the volume of the commentary audio with +6, and the master volume with +12. in the preview before exporting the audio was a bit higher with little clipping, after exporting the project the quality was lower with more clipping. I put it back to 0 and exported the project with no problems. There is still a very minor change in the audio, but i can live with it

Any recommendation on audio file format when recording the voiceover outside LumaFusion to avoid changing in quality when exporting with LumaFusion?

Thanks for the help

You said you were using mp3 as an audio track (which is fine)

I would just try and keep all the bitrates the same if it was me

I do a lot of recording with GarageBand and occasionally want to add a recorded clip eg a jet taking off in ‘Back In The USSR’ or a crowd at the start and end of ‘Tie Your Mother Down’ and I was using 8 bit samples. I could always get the volume levels correct easy enough but eventually threw out the 8 bit samples because I could always hear the difference in quality.

Would you prefer something other than MP3? Would wav be better?
