Post subject:  Compound Clips?

I have a clip I have to rotate a few degrees. I also have to crop it. It’s a shot of a camera on a car’s dash. I need to straighten out the dashboard angle and also crop out the dashboard/hood.

I’m fine with a black “bar” area but not a slanted one. In FCPX I’d create a compound clip so I could crop the rotated clip, not the base clip.

Is it possible in LumaFusion to perform this rotate/crop without a slanted crop line?

Stretching the image is not an option as it makes the cars look absurdly tall.

Hello emmteecee,

In general, you won't be able to execute this task within LumaFusion without having a slanted edge of your clip. The only way to hide the slanted edge is to adjust the size of your clip.

I'm curious to know how you're executing your task within FCPX? We don't have a Compound Clip/Nesting feature, but seeing an example of what you're trying to execute might allow me to see if there's a work-around for what you're trying to do.

Thanks for your response, Keith.

I was able to work around this issue by obscuring the slanted crop line with a shape in the form of a black rectangle on an overlay title.

However, I would like to add that compound clips would be a great addition because I'm doing a cross dissolve on my main video clip and titles don't fade the same way. Are compound clips on the roadmap?

Thanks!

Thanks for the information @emmteecee

Very interesting. Compound Clips/Nesting are something our team has discussed. It is written up as feature request, but it currently is not on the team's immediate to do list.
