Hi all,
I’m experimenting with the ultra wide settings - 2.76:1 and it looks great but I’d like to know if it’s possible to control the colour of the top and bottom bars that appear when using this wide format. At the moment they’re a distracting grey but I need them to be black to make the content colours pop more! Is this possible?

You can change the background color in PROJECT SETTINGS.

There are no black bars if you choose a project ratio and fill the whole frame with your video.

If you want to force bars to appear (and a certain color) you’d have to choose a wider/taller project aspect ratio and adjust the frame of your clips to the desired video size. In the project settings you can change the background color of the project and every area that is not covered by a video or a title will appear in this very color.

So in your case choose 16:9 as the project ratio, set the project background color to black (which should be the default anyways) and trim your clips accordingly.

However, I would suggest to choose the same project aspect ratio as your desired ratio of your clips. The playback app will automatically fill the rest of the device screen outside of your video ratio with black.

If you are talking of double tapping the preview window to get into full screen mode and having the bars showing up in gray - well, that is just Luma’s choice of filling up the screen outside of your actual video frame. Gray instead of black. YOU can’t change this player’s background color. But this does NOT affect your output video in any case...

You can’t change the gray bands in Luma’s full screen mode. That’s Luma’s choice.

Just watch your video in any other application and the bars will be in the color their developers have chosen (usually black) for their playback app.

As for your picture, change your project aspect ratio to 16:9 and the project background color to RED.

Now Luma will show your project in 16:9 mode, however the portion of your video is much narrower. So you will see RED bands at the top and bottom...
