I started using Handbrake video converter mostly due to the fact FiLMic Pro is not recording at consistent target framerate and I was getting errors in LumaFusion to the effect that the clips not being fully compatible. I have had some success with Handbrake but I still do not know enough about Handbrake settings and what LumaFusion can handle to be able to create my own presets. I've already seen the recommended settings LumaFusion suggests. In my tests, I found I can create better quality settings than suggested that will still work fine in LumaFusion. I would like to further my knowledge to find the exact best quality that still works in LumaFusion. I do still get some compatibility errors in LumaFusion. It may be due to my iPad not supporting 4K video or it may be because of video converted to a constant framerate that is slightly different from source...Or some other setting in Handbrake. I don't know.

I record mostly 4K 24fps, 1080p 24fps and sometimes 1080p 120fps. Has anyone here worked with Handbrake and come up with some good settings that maintain the original quality and produces a file that works well in LumaFusion?

Those are the one's I'd use 'cos the info comes from the developers

And you also say 'I found I can create better quality settings than suggested that will still work fine in LumaFusion'

So here's one example:



These settings are a little higher quality than what LumaFusion suggests. The resulting file is still much smaller than the original which makes me think I still have some play room. Again I am merely using this program to set a solid constant framerate, I need to keep the quality the same. Also in the additional options, you'll see the recommended option of keyint=48. I understand this makes for smoother scrolling through the video footage in LumaFusion though I do not know why the number of 48. I see in Handbrake there is, for example, a preset for Youtube 4K which has this info in the additional options: keyint=30:min-keyint=15:ref=1:bframes=2:b-pyramid=none, which I currently have no idea what all that means.

At any rate, I figure this would be a good opportunity for exploration and collective sharing of presets for best usable quality.
