Here are some speed tests using WD mycloud 2 TB over wi fi - files downloaded to iPad Pro

Using app WD and app file browser. 802.11n 2.4GHz Single band WiFi

1:Download 60mbs with WD app 18.96 seconds.

2:Download 60 mbs with file browser app 24.52 seconds.

3:Download 198 mbs with WD app 01:01.12 seconds.

4:Download 198 mbs with file browser 02:00.21 seconds.

I am interested in how to achieve a better speed for download if any suggestion do post please.
With the above speeds any files like 3 Gigs for download are off limit.
Purpose is for WD mycloud to act as a storage folder of videos for editing in LumaFusion.
Regards Rob

Updated on 2nd of July.

test IOS iPad Pro transfer 1.18 Gigs from WD my cloud drive over wi fi - time 6 mins 29 secs, using the WD app - I avoided using the File browser app now for files of this size as I have found an increase in time.

Have you connected your iDevice's WiFi directly the WD Drive?

If you haven't, that may be faster

Hi Dave,

I have the ethernet cable from WD mycloud to 802.11n 2.4GHz Single band WiFi Router.
I think this is what you are referring to ?

The Ethernet cable was connected as above when i did the tests.

Any other ideas welcome.

I have researched some areas and understand 802.11n 2.4GHz Single band WiFi is behind in progress.

WD community admin often says ask WD directly, WD often do not reply or push you to a page of information with stats. Which often says ask the community and i get off the roundabout.

So at the moment all i really have to go on is what you posted earlier Dave. (Thank you )

Using your 5Ghz transfer, from memory it was not as quick as i like over wifi, which is my goal to use the ipad to connect to video sources for editing in LF.

It might be using wifi in this manner is not possible to say achieve 80 mbs both ways.
However i keep researching as i doubt i am the only one asking these questions.

Generally it appears wifi drives have one purpose play video on a TV set and back up some images.

What I have learnt is the following.
Apps can improve speeds.
File browser very slow compared to WD app for download, surprised at that as WD forum recommended the app. And the app for a purpose to inface in a way to be more helpful, which it is with regards to viewing RAF files.

But to transfer a 3 Gigs file both apps fail in a allocated time.

Regards Rob

Just adding more contents of stats.

Using laptop Mac book pro over wifi from WD my cloud

Drag and drop 1.18 Gigs from WD my cloud over wifi to laptop Mac book pro took
02:26.17

iPad Pro went past 15 mins on a 3 Gigs so I stopped at that point.

In my head now I thinking if I changed the WD to SSD drive and upgraded the router to 5 Ghz I actually gain very little in speed.

I am basing this on the above information anyone advise do let me know please.

Regards Rob

Question to "MyAmazingDiscoveries"

If you had say 4 TB of stock images and video and audio on an external wi fi drive, how would you say see PSD, RAW in say "File Browers app" ?

As all I can see is no PSD, RAW are not displayed until I click on the image and it loads a 24 mb's RAW file takes about 30 seconds.

This takes forever to find any files within a folder.

Can you do an experiment for me please.

iPad Pro use "FB" I refer to this as FB (which is File browser)

Using a wi fi drive transfer a lump file of 1 gig to the said wi fi drive on LAN (local area network)

I like the time it takes please.

Then bring this file back and record the time as well please.

Regards Rob
I am a little confused by your question to me - plus I am super short on time this month as I spend lots of time with my family on trips...

With that said, something tells me the free program by DEVONtechnologies called EasyFind might fit the bill for you:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/easyfin ... 3888?mt=12

Yes, the program only works in OSX - I am assuming you have a laptop or desktop.

I do not use Photoshop. I use Procreate instead.

So:

On my Mac laptop, I created a quick Sketchup file. Then I Airdropped it to File Manager Pro - like this:

Image

If I click on that file, it shows me the code in a RSS-like fashion.

About the 1 gig transfer... using my 9.7 iPad (much slower than my new 12.9 iPad... currently not in my hands)... a 154 MB file took about 5 seconds to transfer. So I am guessing a 1 GB file would be roughly 35 seconds or so.

I used a LaCie Rugged external drive - USB into my old MacBook Pro.

As I prepare to configure a NAS solution on my home LAN, I just purchased this app - called FileExplorer Pro ($4.99).

It seems just as good as File Manager Pro. AND it has several NAS options - take a looksy:

This software seems like it would fit the bill for your testing.
