It's the biggest complaint of Mobile Journalists.. the constant switching between your mic for interviews, and camera mounted mic for background sound. Why? Because no iOS editing platform has added audio panning. Why is this overlooked?

I'm checking on this. I understand the need for it, so if it's something we can do, then I'll get it into the feature backlog.

Thanks Terri, I've been testing the app for possible adoption. But can't recommend the cost of mass adoption unless it has the feature. But very impressed with many of the other features.

Hi Merek,

The reason nobody’s done panning is that it isn’t an intrinsic capability of AVFoundation. With what we have built in LumaFusion for doing track audio control, we should be able to add panning but it's not trivial since it’s not built-in to the AV framework from Apple and we will want to make sure to do it nicely.

Can you tell me - does the interview mic typically result in a single track (say on the left or right) that you need to pan center?

Hi Terri, Yes even when the clips play in Luma, the channels are shown separated. In my case intv. Mic is left, ambient is right channel. I can see it on the audio graph. Just need a way to create a dual mono, or pan either to the left or right to isolate the desired channel.

I will add that description to the request.

That's great!
P.s. how we have dealt with this in the field is to manually turn the levels up and down on the camera to allow only the desired channel. Unfortunately for many reporters it's led to several instances of forgetting to switch.

I think there are two processes to examine here.

First, the analagous feature in Premiere is "fill left" or "fill right". In FCP 7 (yeah, I'm still holding out...) and other NLEs the process is to delink the stereo pair, creating two mono files.

For the time being, though it's a bit of a workaround, I'd look at a DAW app like Auria to handle splitting audio. The Fusion>Auria>Fusion round trip is kind of a PITA, requiring DropBox to move files, but it can work.
